In France, article L6315-1 of the Labour Code requires a professional interview every two years, an interview on return from certain types of leave and, every six years, a summary review. Illizeo tracks these deadlines for your employees in France, based on the interviews held in the Performance module. This article is for HR and for managers of teams in France.
Before you start #
- Tracking covers employees whose primary contract is linked to an office located in France; without an office, the company’s country applies. Outside France, nothing is shown.
- The contract’s hire date (otherwise the one on the employee file) is the starting point. Without a hire date, the deadline cannot be calculated.
- An interview only counts if it is held with a form template marked as a professional interview and is finalised.
- The card on the employee’s screen is visible to whoever can read that person’s reviews (“Feedback” permission, Access level, PERFORMANCE section, and the role’s population).
- Marking a template requires “Settings — Feedback form templates” at the Execute level (by default, the Administrator role).
- The People Analytics report requires “System reports — List” and “System report — Open” (by default, Administrator and Payroll Manager).
The template to use #
Illizeo provides the Professional interview (France) template, already marked. Its questions cover the topics set by law: review since the last interview, career development prospects, training needs and wishes, activation of the personal training account (CPF) and top-ups, validation of prior learning (VAE), career development counselling (CEP), the six-yearly summary review, and the employee’s comments. You can adapt it like any other template (see Designing review forms).
To make another template count as a professional interview too:
- Open Settings › Performance › Feedback Templates.
- Click View on the template’s row: the form builder opens.
- Tick Professional interview (France, art. L6315-1). The setting is saved at once: “This template now counts as a professional interview.”
The box remains available on a template locked by a signed review. Unticking it removes the template from the count, including for interviews already held.

Holding the interview #
There are two ways to hold the interview with a marked template:
- a one-off review: on the employee’s profile, Performance › Performance Overview › New feedback, choose the template, then Add feedback;
- a campaign step whose form is that template.
In both cases, the interview counts from the date it is finalised (Finalize button). A draft, or a review that has only been submitted, does not count. How to fill in a review is described in Completing and approving reviews.
The card on the employee’s screen #
For an employee in France, the Professional interview (France) card appears at the top of their Performance screen, above the tabs.
- Last interview: the date of the last finalised interview, or “None”.
- Next due: the date of the next deadline, with “on return from leave” when a return from leave has brought it forward.
- Six-year review: the date of the next summary review, the number of interviews held out of the 3 expected, and the number of non-mandatory training courses completed over six years.
- A status badge: Overdue, Within 60 days, Up to date or Hire date unknown.

How the deadline is calculated #
- The interview is due two years after the last finalised interview, otherwise two years after hiring.
- It is due earlier, on the date of return, after approved maternity, parental, adoption, sabbatical or carer’s leave (standard absence categories), or after sick leave of six months or more (consecutive absences less than four days apart count as one), as long as no interview has been finalised since the return. The end of a trade union mandate is not detected: you need to track it yourself.
- The status changes to Within 60 days during the 60 days before the deadline, then to Overdue once the deadline has passed.
- The summary review falls on every sixth anniversary of hiring. It counts the interviews finalised during the previous six years (3 expected) and the non-mandatory training courses completed in the Training module. Training taken outside Illizeo is not seen. If the Training module is not active, the card shows “Training not verifiable (Training module inactive)”.
If the previous summary review is incomplete, an alert on the card says so and recalls the CPF top-up rule (art. L6323-13) for companies with at least 50 employees; the alert states whether a non-mandatory training course was completed over the period.
The Professional interviews report #
In People Analytics › System reports, open Professional interviews. The report lists the employees in France whose reviews you can read.
- Indicators: Overdue (interview due and not held), Within 60 days (to schedule), Incomplete six-year review (fewer than 3 interviews in 6 years), Up to date and Employees in France.
- Columns: Hired, Last interview, Next due, Reason (Every 2 years or Return from leave), Status, Six-year review and Interviews before (of 3).
The report applies the same rules as the card on the employee’s screen; if in doubt about an employee, the card gives the detail.

Being reminded of the deadline #
An administrator can add a role reminder: Settings › Manage Employees › Employee Roles, choose the role, Reminders tab, Add reminder, Professional interview category. The reminder is sent to the role’s holders, for the employees in their scope, based on the next deadline.
Good to know #
- Only a finalised interview counts. Remember to finalise the interview once it has been held.
- The professional interview is separate from the annual review: use a marked template rather than your usual review form, unless you have marked it yourself.
- Returns from leave are only detected from approved absences in the standard categories.
- The skills part of the annual review belongs to the Training module: see Managing skills.
FAQ #
The card does not appear on an employee’s screen. #
The employee is not linked to France (office of the primary contract, otherwise the company’s country), or you cannot read their reviews.
An interview that was held is not counted. #
Check that it has been finalised and that its template has the “Professional interview (France, art. L6315-1)” box ticked.
The card shows “Hire date unknown”. #
Enter the hire date on the employee’s contract or file.
