Family allowances in Slovenia
Slovenia pays an Otroški dodatek (child benefit) on 8 income bands (up to €117/month/child). Exceptional public nursery network (Vrtci) covering 90% of 1–5 year olds. Reformed parental leave: 30 weeks with 1 month reserved for the father.

Otroški dodatek — child benefit
Monthly benefit paid by Social Work Centres (CSD) on 8 equivalent-income bands:
- Band 1 (≤31% of average wage): €117/month (1st), €128 (2nd), €140 (3rd+)
- Bands 2–4: regressive amounts (€60–100)
- Bands 5–7: €30–58/month
- Band 8 (up to 99% of average wage): €22–32/month
- Above: no benefit
- Paid until age 18 (or 26 if studying)
Pomoč ob rojstvu otroka — birth grant
- 1st child: €350
- 2nd child: €480
- 3rd child and beyond: €1,000
- Eligibility: permanent residence in Slovenia
- Paid by the Social Work Centre (CSD)
Starševski dopust — parental leave (2018 reform)
Unified scheme reformed in 2018:
- Maternity leave: 105 days (15 before + 90 after birth) at 100% of salary
- Paternity leave: 30 days at 100% of salary (15 mandatory + 15 transferable)
- Parental leave: 130 days per parent (260 total, 30 transferable)
- Benefits paid by CSD
- Total: 30 weeks per child, ~1 year of leave
Dodatek za veliko družino — large-family bonus
Annual lump sum for families with 3+ children:
- 3 children: €416/year
- 4+ children: €507/year
- One-off payment in March
Vrtci — public nurseries
Exceptional public municipal nursery network:
- ~90% of 1–5 year olds enrolled in Vrtci
- Income-based fees: from €0 (very low income) to ~€400/month (high income)
- Free from 2nd child in nursery (State subsidy)
- 3% of municipalities provide full free nursery
Subvencija prevoza in šolske prehrane
School transport: free for children > 4 km from school.
School meals: breakfast and lunch subsidised 80–100% for low-income families.
Study grants: Zoisova and Cehova štipendija for students €100–300/month.
