Prídavok na dieťa — universal benefit

Benefit paid by Úrad práce, sociálnych vecí a rodiny (UPSVAR) to all resident children:

• €60/month per child (since 2023 uprating)
• No means test
• Paid until age 25 (if studying)
• Príplatok k prídavku: €30.55/month extra for families whose parent doesn’t receive the tax bonus

Daňový bonus na dieťa — per-child tax credit

Monthly tax credit applied on salary:

• 0–5: €140/month (€1,680/year) in 2025
• 6–15: €50/month (€600/year)
• 16+: €50/month
• Capped at a % of income: 20% (1 child) to 50% (5+ children)
• Reduced for incomes > 18× minimum wage

Rodičovský príspevok — parental allowance

Allowance for parent caring for child up to age 3:

• €412.56/month for parent who did not receive prior maternity benefit
• €565.80/month for parent who received maternity benefit (higher rate)
• Paid until child turns 3 (6 if disabled)
• No home-care requirement (stackable with nursery)

Príspevok pri narodení dieťaťa — birth grant

• €829.86 per birth (1st, 2nd and 3rd birth)
• €151.37 from 4th birth onwards
• One-off payment by UPSVAR
• Conditions: residency and prenatal check-ups attended

Maternity leave (Materské) — 34 weeks

Maternity benefit paid by Sociálna poisťovňa:

• 34 weeks (37 if single parent, 43 if twins+)
• Benefit: 75% of assessment base (max ~€2,100/month in 2025)
• Father can also take 28 weeks after the mother

Nurseries — Materské školy and jasle

Public kindergartens (materské školy) for 3–6:

• Modest public fees: €10–50/month
• Free for compulsory pre-school year (last year before school)

Nurseries (jasle) for < 3: limited number, ~€150–400/month in public.
