Detski Dodatok — child benefit

Benefit paid by Social Work Centres, means-tested (uprated in 2019):

  • MKD 1,100/month per child (≈ €18)
  • +30% bonus for single-parent families or disabled child
  • +50% bonus for families with 3+ children
  • Income conditions: ≤ 16% of national average monthly income
  • Paid until age 18 (26 if studying)
  • ~80,000 child beneficiaries

Birth grant (2023 reform)

Natalist reform to stimulate birth rate:

  • 1st child: MKD 5,000 flat (≈ €81)
  • 2nd child: MKD 10,000
  • 3rd child: MKD 30,000 + monthly Subvencija
  • 4th child and beyond: MKD 30,000 + monthly Subvencija

For families with 3+ children with modest incomes:

  • MKD 3,000/month per child from the 3rd

Maternity leave (Porodilno otsustvo)

Modulated by number of children:

  • 1st–2nd child: 9 months (4 before + 5 after) at 100% of salary
  • 3rd child and beyond: 12 months at 100%
  • Benefit paid by Health Insurance Fund (HIF)
  • Capped at 200% of national average salary
  • Unpaid extension possible up to 3 years

Paternity leave — 7 days

7 working days at 100% of salary, to be taken within 30 days of birth. 2022 reform aligned with EU directive.

Nurseries — Detski gradinki

Public municipal nurseries for 6 months–6 years:

  • Skopje: ~MKD 2,500–5,500/month by income
  • Bitola, Kumanovo: MKD 1,500–4,000/month
  • 50% reduction for 2nd child
  • Free for 3rd child and beyond

Trajna parichna pomosh — permanent aid

Aid for families in extreme poverty:

  • ~MKD 4,000–10,000/month by composition
  • Conditions: resources < subsistence minimum
  • Stackable with Detski Dodatok
