# Finding your way around Illizeo: menu, search, language and personal settings

This article helps you find your way around Illizeo: the sidebar and how to customise it, quick search, your account menu (language, appearance) and your personal settings. It is for everyone who uses Illizeo: employees, managers, HR and administrators.

## Before you start

- No particular permission is needed to navigate. However, every menu entry, search result and tab follows your permissions and your company's modules: anything your role does not let you open is not shown at all, rather than greyed out.
- Searching for a colleague requires the **Employees module — Access** permission (Employees section of the role matrix, **Access** level), which all roles hold by default.

## The sidebar

The sidebar on the left of the screen lists the modules you can access: **Dashboards**, **Employees**, **Calendar**, then the modules your company has installed. **Settings** and **Help** stay at the bottom; **Help** opens the Illizeo help centre.

- **Hover** over a module that has sub-entries: a second column opens next to the sidebar with its screens (for example **Attendance calendar** and **Absence calendar** under **Calendar**). The pin in that column keeps it open; this choice is remembered in your browser.
- **Click** a module to open it directly.
- The handle on the edge of the sidebar (**Collapse sidebar** / **Expand sidebar**) shows icons only, or icons with their names. This choice follows your account.
- A small pink counter on an entry indicates pending approvals.
- On a phone, the sidebar is folded away: tap the **Open navigation** button at the top left.

## Customising the navigation

You can hide the modules you do not use and change their order. This preference is yours alone: it changes nothing for your colleagues.

1. Hover over the nine-dot button at the bottom of the sidebar (labelled **Plus**).
2. Click **Customize navigation**. The **Customize** window lists your modules.
3. Untick a module to remove it from the sidebar, tick it to bring it back. **Dashboards** is marked **Always shown** and cannot be hidden.
4. Drag a module by its handle to move it.

Customize navigation: modules shown and sidebar order.

Each change is saved straight away (**Saved** appears at the top of the list). A hidden module remains available from the **Plus** button, under the hidden modules heading. **Reset** restores the original order and display.

## Quick search

The **Search — people, pages, actions…** bar at the top of the screen opens with a click or from the keyboard with **Ctrl K** (**⌘ K** on a Mac). It finds:

- **colleagues**, from two letters: a click opens their profile. The search covers active people; depending on your permissions, **Include other statuses** adds former employees, pending hires and departures in progress;
- **pages**: every menu entry you can open, settings included;
- **actions**: for example **Request leave** or **Expense report**, depending on your permissions and modules.

![Quick search open: the Search — people, pages, actions… field, the Ask Illizeo… line, then a list of pages (Dashboards, Quick actions, Employees, Photo directory…)](https://i0.wp.com/illizeo.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/11/self-service-navigation-and-personal-settings-02.en_.png?resize=680%2C472&quality=80&ssl=1)
Quick search (Ctrl K): people, pages and actions.

With nothing typed, the **Recent** heading recalls your latest choices; **Clear** empties it. An item you can no longer reach (permission removed, module switched off) also drops out of that list. The **Esc** key closes the search. If the artificial intelligence assistant is enabled in your space, the search also offers to ask Illizeo your question.

## Your account menu

Click your photo at the top right. The menu offers:

- **My Profile**: your personal record (see [My profile: viewing and updating my information](https://illizeo.com/en/centre-aide/self-service-my-profile/));
- **Personal Settings**: your settings (see below);
- **Applications**, if your role manages the company's application store;
- **Language** and **Appearance**;
- **Logout**.

### Changing language

1. In your account menu, click **Language**.
2. Choose **Français**, **English**, **Deutsch** or **Italiano**.

The screen switches language immediately. The choice is saved to your account: it also sets the language of the emails Illizeo sends you.

### Choosing the appearance

**Appearance** offers **System** (the default: Illizeo follows your computer's light or dark mode), **Light** and **Dark**. This choice applies to the browser you are using: set it again on another device.

## Your personal settings

Open **Personal Settings** from your account menu. The tabs shown depend on your permissions:

| Tab | What it is for |
| --- | --- |
| **Notifications** | Choosing, event by event, how you are notified (see [Alerts & notifications](https://illizeo.com/en/docs-category/platform-en/platform-alerts-notifications/)). |
| **Role Reminders** | Reminders linked to your roles, and your personal reminders. |
| **Delegate My Workflow** | Handing your approvals to someone else for a period (see [Flows & approvals](https://illizeo.com/en/docs-category/platform-en/platform-flows-approvals/)). |
| **Privacy Consent** | Your privacy notices: what was presented to you, when, and on which legal basis. |
| **My calendars** | Connecting your Google or Outlook calendar (see [The calendar and syncing your work calendar](https://illizeo.com/en/centre-aide/self-service-calendar-and-calendar-sync/)). |
| **Automated decisions** | Decisions made about you without human involvement, with the option of asking a person to review them. |
| **Open on mobile** | A QR code or a link to sign in to the mobile app without retyping your password (see [Mobile app](https://illizeo.com/en/docs-category/platform-en/modules-mobile-app/)). |
| **Version Info** | The Illizeo version and your subscription references, useful if support asks for them. |

Personal Settings: one tab per setting.

Your password, two-factor authentication and single sign-on are not set here: see [Security & compliance](https://illizeo.com/en/docs-category/platform-en/platform-security-sso/).

## Good to know

- The sidebar, the search and the actions apply the same rules: a module your company has not enabled, or that is not open to you, appears nowhere.
- Hiding a module from your sidebar removes no permission: it remains reachable through **Plus**, the search and its links.
- The order, the hidden modules and the collapsed or expanded sidebar follow your account from one device to another; the second-column pin and the appearance stay with the browser.
- Some labels in the navigation (the **Plus** button and its hidden modules heading) are currently shown in French in the English interface.

## FAQ

### A module has disappeared from my sidebar. What should I do?

First look under **Plus**: you may have hidden it. If it is not there, your role no longer gives access to it or the module is no longer active: contact your administrator.

### The search does not find a colleague.

By default it only searches active people, and only within the population your role lets you see. For someone who has left or not yet started, tick **Include other statuses** if the option is offered.
