# Clocking in and out

Clocking means recording, live, when your work starts and ends, and when you take breaks and lunch. This article explains where to clock in, what each button does, how to book time to a project and what happens if you forget to clock out.

## Before you start

- Your role needs the "Clock in / out / pause / resume (widget)" permission at the **Execute** level. By default, all employees have it.
- Your attendance profile must include the **Clock in/out** capture mode. Otherwise the clocking buttons do not appear and you enter your hours in the timesheet.
- The Attendance module must be enabled for you.

## Where to clock in

- **The clock in the header**, at the top of every page. It always clocks for you, even when you are viewing a colleague's profile.
- **The "Time tracking" card on the dashboard**. It also shows your times for the day ("Worked", "Breaks", "Lunch") and the "My hours" summary for the month.
- **A badge clock**, if your company has installed one: see [Badge clocks](https://illizeo.com/en/centre-aide/attendance-badge-clocks/).

## Clocking from the header

1. Click **Clock In**. A timer starts.
2. For a break, click **Break**; for lunch, click **Lunch**.
3. To return to work, click **Resume**.
4. At the end of the day, click **Out**.

You cannot clock out during a break or lunch: the tooltip "Resume work before clocking out" appears. After clocking out, you can clock in again if you resume later in the day.

## Clocking from the dashboard

1. On the **Time tracking** card, click **Clock in**. The button then shows your arrival time.
2. Use **Break** or **Meal** to pause, then **Resume**.
3. Click **Clock out** to end the day.

The card's status shows where you are: "Not clocked in yet", "In progress", "Paused", "Lunch", "Clocked out" or "Abnormal duration".

### Booking time to a project

When projects are available, the card shows a **Clock in on** selector (**Resume on** after a break). The project you choose applies to the period that starts. To switch task during the day, take a break and resume on the new project. The header clock does not offer projects.

## If you forget to clock out

Your company decides what happens to a session left open too long (by default: 30 minutes after the planned end of your day). Depending on this setting, the session is closed automatically, clocking out is blocked, or only an alert is raised; your direct manager may also be notified.

- Before it is closed, the dashboard card shows a banner "Session open since…" with the link **Enter the clock-out time**.
- After the system has closed it, the banner "No clock-out: the session of … was closed by the system" offers **Confirm** or **Correct**. In the timesheet, the day carries the alert "Clock-out to confirm".
- In the "Enter your clock-out time" or "Confirm your clock-out time" window, enter the **Clock-out time** (within the limits shown), then save.

A time you correct yourself applies immediately. If your company has kept the "employee clocking correction" circuit, your manager then reviews it; if they reject it, the original time is restored.

## Clocking on a day of absence

Your company decides what happens if you clock in on a day that already has an absence: clocking may be blocked, accepted with a warning to the approver or to HR, or accepted with the absence cancelled. Conversely, a leave request on days already clocked shows an "Existing clock entries" notice.

## Good to know

- The time recorded is in the time zone of your place of work (office, otherwise company), rounded to the nearest minute.
- Clocking is refused if no attendance profile is active that day, if the profile does not allow clocking, if the day has already been submitted or approved, or if payroll for the period has been approved.
- Two punches sent at the same moment are not duplicated: the second one is asked to try again.
- Clocking from the header or the dashboard records no location, and no network restriction applies to it. Geolocated clocking exists on Scheduling shifts.
- The comment field on the "Time tracking" card is not saved with the punch: add your comments in the timesheet.
- In the timesheet, an icon shows where each time came from: Badge clock, Web punch, Mobile app, Microsoft Teams, Timesheet entry, Time set by HR, or Set by the system (forgotten clock-out).

## FAQ

### I cannot see the Clock In button.

Your attendance profile does not include the "Clock in/out" mode, no profile is assigned to you, or your role is not allowed to clock in. Contact your HR team.

### I clocked in on the wrong project.

Open the day in your timesheet and change the project of the segment concerned, as long as the day has not been submitted.
